Made to Measure Blinds

Roman Blinds

Elegant, stylish, and practical, Roman blinds work well on all windows, large or small, and are great for maximising the natural light. Our made-to-measure roman blinds are available with standard pleats or a cascade finish and are hand-finished with great care and attention to detail.

Regular or Cascade (Waterfall) Pockets?

Regular pockets are when the blind folds or stacks up in equal sections, one in front of the other. Cascade pockets are when each section of the blind, when folded, is staggered so that smaller folds occur towards the top and front of the blind when it is folded up, creating a cascade effect.

When choosing between the two types of pockets, bear in mind that regular pockets are more 'efficient' in that the blind is more compact when pulled up and will obscure less of the window. Cascade pockets give rise, on average, to a deeper size of the folded blind. The size of each ripple in the cascade adds about 2.5cm to the folded depth.

Note that it is best not to combine cascading pockets with a shaped bottom. This option creates a greater depth when pulled up as you increase depth both through the cascade and the bottom. That said, if you have the reasonably deep drop on the window, a cascade with a border at the base looks very effective as the extra area folded takes up on your window probably does not matter too much in terms of obscuring the light.

Borders

You can have a border around the blind in a contrasting fabric. With the border width being at your discretion. We usually recommend 2cm or 5cm for a border that runs down the two sides of the blind and optionally along the bottom edge but for a bottom border you can go up to 20cm deep.

The border runs from the perimeter of the blind inwards, and you can have either bottom only, bottom and sides, or sides only. The border goes right up to the edge of the blind - we don't do inset borders. Borders are a great way to tie in existing room colours to add a contrasting colour/pattern to the main fabric or just used to frame a design.

Band

A similar concept to the border, you can have a wide horizontal inset band running across the blind, again in a contrasting fabric. This band of colour can be up to 20cm wide (i.e. height). The band is set in the bottom and is set in the bottom 1/3 of the blind approximately 8-20cm up from the base, depending on the overall drop. This design option works well with cascade pockets.

You can choose to have a contrasting border of fabric down two sides and along the bottom; we also offer a contrasting border to the bottom of the blind only. Please note that this border will be visible when the blind is up.

How we make our Roman Blinds

Our Roman Blinds are made with self-lined pockets to match the blind linings. They have hand-sewn brass rings and child safety clips on the bottom rod, and we use tracks with a side chain. The chains are supplied chrome as standard, brass, antique brass and nickel are also available on request. The gear pops out for child safety, and the mechanisms on our Roman Blinds come with a 1-year guarantee.

Due to the dangers of pull cords and chains that operate window coverings, we follow the new safety regulations BS EN13120 from 28th February 2014; please read and follow the instructions provided with your custom roman blinds and use the safety equipment supplied.

All blinds ordered through our UK Made to Measure roman blind service will be supplied with a safety device and should be fitted as directed in the fitting instructions also supplied with the blind.

Linings

We offer standard lined, blackout lined, and contrast Lined Roman Blinds (a fabric of your choice that lines the blind on the reverse), as well as interlined roman blinds (a cotton wadding that sits between the main fabric and the lining and helps as a draft excluder).

Always double check your measurements.
