Small in scale and beautifully lively, Animalcules is a one-colour Cambridge Imprint pattern introduced in 2019. A refined, miniature interpretation of Milky Way, itself inspired by 18th-century French domino papers. The design is built from tiny, repeating forms, delicate and rhythmic, ideal for projects requiring a fine, unobtrusive motif. Its name honours van Leeuwenhoek’s “animalcules,” the microscopic organisms first observed through his handmade lens. Fitting for a pattern born of detail.

Printed in England using hand-mixed vegetable-oil inks on smooth, uncoated stock, the paper has a soft matte finish with the gentle tactility of traditional printing. The Bawden Green colourway is particularly elegant. Calm, natural and quietly timeless, it's perfect for bookbinding, origami and thoughtful craft.
