Our Bespoke Soft Furnishings Service

Handcrafted, considered, and made to last

At Kitty & Gus, bespoke means more than made-to-measure. It means taking time, using
traditional skills, and creating soft furnishings that are thoughtfully hand‑crafted, one stitch at a
time. Our process is friendly and collaborative, rooted in craftsmanship and care, from the first
fabric choice to the final fitting in your home.
From choosing beautiful fabrics and measuring your windows, right through to sourcing,
hand‑making and fitting your curtains and blinds, we guide you through every stage. With expert
advice on traditional curtain making and interior styling, you can relax knowing every detail, both
pretty and practical, is in experienced, caring hands.

Worth the wait

Because every piece is made especially for you, bespoke work takes time. Whilst timing will vary, most projects can take around two to three months from our first conversation to final fitting. This allows for careful sourcing, considered making, and the hand‑finishing that gives bespoke furnishings their lasting quality.

Timings can vary depending on the scale of your project and the availability of fabrics and finishes, but we’ll keep you informed throughout.
True craftsmanship isn’t rushed and the result is something designed to be enjoyed for years to come.

What to expect

A little chat to get started

Every project begins with a relaxed phone call or conversation. Whether you’re dreaming of handcrafted curtains or blinds, or would like help bringing a whole room together, we’ll take the time to understand your ideas and how you live in your space.

Once we have measurements and a fabric selection has been made, we can give a guide on costs and suggest the best next steps.

Need a home visit? – we’ll come to you

If you’d like to go ahead, we’ll arrange an in‑home visit. This is where design meets practicality.

We’ll explore your style, share fabric options, take precise measurements, and talk through the details that ensure your curtains or blinds not only look beautiful, but work perfectly day to day.

Our home consultation fee is £50 per visit.

Samples, swatches & the “that’s the one” moment

With a clear direction in place, we move into the design stage. This is where colours, textures and finishes are carefully chosen to suit your home. We’ll guide you through the options, drawing on years of experience, until everything feels just right.

Once agreed, you’ll receive a detailed written quotation covering sourcing, hand‑making and fitting if required.

Made with love (and skill)

Once your deposit is received (usually 50%), your project is booked into our workroom diary.

Fabrics, linings, poles, tracks and accessories are carefully ordered to ensure everything is made to your exact specification.

Each piece is individually hand‑sewn using traditional techniques, with patience, precision and a real eye for detail. It’s slower than mass production, but the result is a refined finish, beautiful drape, and craftsmanship you can see and feel.

The finishing touches

When your curtains or blinds are ready, they are supplied ready to fit or we can arrange fitting if you prefer. This includes installing poles or tracks where required, and carefully hanging and dressing your furnishings so they sit perfectly from day one.

Final payment is due once everything has been delivered and fitted.

FAQ – Bespoke Soft Furnishings

How much does a bespoke curtain or blind project cost?
Every project is unique. Costs depend on your chosen fabric, window sizes, style and finishing details. After our initial chat, we can usually offer a helpful guide price. Once your design is finalised, you’ll receive a full written quotation so everything is clear.

Do you offer in‑home consultations?
Yes. Home visits allow us to properly explore fabrics, styles and practical details, and to take accurate measurements. A £50 consultation fee applies to cover time and mileage, and is fully refunded when you confirm your order.

What is the typical lead time?
Most bespoke projects take around six to ten weeks from confirming your order. This can vary depending on design complexity and material availability, but quality hand‑craftsmanship is always worth the wait.

Should I have my design decided before we meet?
Not at all. Whether you have a folder full of inspiration, a few screenshots, or no clear ideas yet, we’ll guide you through the process and help you create something that suits both your home and your everyday life.

Are your curtains and blinds handmade?
Yes. Every piece is made to order in our workroom. Our interlined curtains are around 90% hand-sewn, using traditional techniques for a beautifully finished, long-lasting result. Some curtains are machine-lined where appropriate, combined with skilled hand-finishing to ensure precision, strength and consistency.

Do you take care of fitting?
Yes we can. We can arrange fitting, including installing poles or tracks where needed, and hanging and dressing your curtains or blinds so everything looks and functions as it should.

Curtains can be supplied ready for you to fit yourself if you prefer.

How do payments work?
We usually take a 50% deposit to secure your place in our work schedule and order materials. The remaining balance is due once your order has been delivered and fitted.

Can you work with existing poles or tracks?
Often, yes. We’ll assess what you have during your consultation and advise whether it’s suitable for your new curtains or blinds.

How far do you travel for in‑home consultations, and does this affect the fee?
Our standard in‑home consultation service covers a 25‑mile radius of Kelso. The £50 consultation fee applies within this area and is fully refunded when you place an order. If you’re a little further afield, just get in touch and we’ll happily discuss options and any additional travel costs in advance.

Can I supply my own fabric, or do I need to choose from yours?
You’re very welcome to supply your own fabric. We’re experienced in working with customer‑provided fabrics as well as those we source ourselves, and we’ll always advise on suitability to ensure the best possible finish and longevity. Need help calculating fabric requirements? Get in touch and we can help you!

Do you offer fabric samples?
Yes. We’re happy to arrange fabric samples so you can see colours and textures in your own space and light. Where possible, samples are provided free of charge to help you choose with confidence.
